PORTA 33 EM MADRID, NA ARCO COM PEDRO CABRITA REIS
Nascido em Lisboa em 1956, Pedro Cabrita Reis integra de um modo paradigmático a consciência
de uma nova escultura contemporânea, que conhecemos a partir de meados dos anos 80. Definida
por um discurso simultaneamente filosófico e poético fortemente individualizado, a sua obra
estabelece-se através de processos construtivos também eles memórias de gestos e acções
primordiais e elementares, que se repetem na vida de todos os dias.
A complexa diversidade das relações teóricas e formais que a obra de Pedro Cabrita Reis nos
propõe através das suas pinturas, esculturas, desenhos ou instalações desenvolve-se
sustentada numa reflexão antropológica por oposição ao reducionismo de um discurso
sociológico. De facto, é sobre emoções, memórias, silêncios e interrogações que assenta a
obra de Pedro Cabrita Reis.
Cabinet d’Amateur # 3 é o trabalho de Pedro Cabrita Reis que a Porta
33 apresenta este ano na ARCO em Madrid. Vinte elementos pintados – quadrados, rectângulos e
círculos de MDF, constituem esta peça inédita e de grandes dimensões em que, na continuação
de trabalhos anteriores expostos no Museu de Serralves (Cabinet d’Amateur # 1, 1999)
ou na Galleria Civica de Arte Moderna, (Catalogue # 2, Torino, 2000) e ainda Magasin 3
Stockholm Konsthall, Stockholm (Cabinet d’Amateur # 2, 2001), Pedro Cabrita Reis
continua a propor-nos interrogações e olhares cruzados pela contaminação entre os limites da
pintura, da escultura e da própria percepção do espaço.
Após a exposição "Naturália – parte I", Funchal 1996, a Porta 33
tem o prazer de voltar a colaborar com Pedro Cabrita Reis, artista que desfrutando de um
consolidado reconhecimento nacional e internacional, representará Portugal na próxima Bienal
de Veneza em 2003.

Pedro Cabrita Reis was born in Lisbon in 1956, and paradigmatically integrates the awareness
of a new contemporary sculpture, which we are given to know from the beginning of the
nineteen-eighties. His work is defined as a highly individualised simultaneously
philosophical and poetic discourse, and is established through constructive processes that
are also memories of primordial and elementary gestures and acts that are repeated in
everyday life.
The complex diversity of theoretical and formal relationships that Pedro Cabrita Reis’s
work proposes through his paintings, sculptures, drawings or installations is developed over
an anthropological reflection as opposed to the reductionism of a sociological discourse.
Indeed, Pedro Cabrita Reis’s work is about emotions, memories, silences and
interrogations.
Cabinet d_Amateur # 3 is the work by Pedro Cabrita Reis that Porta 33 is
presenting this year at ARCO in Madrid. Twenty painted elements, squares, rectangles and MDF
circles make up this new and large-scale piece in which, following on from previous works
exhibited at the Serralves Museum (Cabinet d_Amateur # 1, 1999) or at the Galleria Civica de
Arte Moderna, (Catalogue # 2, Turin, 2000) and at Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall, Stockholm
(Cabinet d´Amateur # 2, 2001), Pedro Cabrita Reis continues to set us questions and gazes
crossed by the contamination between the limits of painting, of sculpture and of the
perception of space itself.
After the exhibition "Naturália - parte I", Funchal 1996, Porta 33
has the pleasure to work once again with Pedro Cabrita Reis, an artist who enjoys
consolidated national and international recognition and will represent Portugal at the
coming Venice Biennial in 2003.
